General update

Kyle had his MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and PCV (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) yesterday. He was a champ. Despite getting an injection in each leg, he only cried a little bit as the needle went in. He's far more aware of what's happening now, so when I turned him around for the second injection he looked as me as if to say "you're not seriously going to let them do that again are you?!" - sadly for him, yes I had to. I always hate seeing him get vaccines, but I suppose it's a small price to pay to make sure he's safe. So far he's not had any reaction to them, but the Health Visitor did say he may get a rash, fever or swollen glands in about 7-10 days but that it should pass quickly.

Kyle's vocabulary is increasing. He now says car, Nana (for Granny), bye bye (sounds more like baa baa, but is usally accompanied by waving which helps!), shoes and is attempting to say animals. He's very good at using "ta" for thank you and he loves giving things to people with an enthusiastic "ta". He likes making animal noises and can make the noises for cow, dog, cat, monkey, bear, lion and various others. He now says Mummy a lot more, which makes me very happy. He also loves blowing kisses to everyone!

He's getting really good at walking and seems to have progressed directly to running. In fact, he had another accident at nursery and fell onto a basket, he had a nasty scrape next to his eye - thankfully he just missed hurting his eye and it seems to be healing up nicely. He's working on some upside down time too, he likes bending over and putting his head on the floor and having a look through his legs - this is apparently very funny.

Surprisingly, for such a strong-willed wee soul, he's getting quite good at following simple instructions. When we're out shopping for groceries I can ask him to put something in the trolley and he does! Also if we're putting him in his car seat and he's straining to look at something, it's really hard to fasten his belts, if you ask him to sit back - he duly does! If he spots bits of fluff or anything on the floor, his first instinct is to put it into his mouth, after a bit of work he now brings it to me if I ask him. He often goes and gets his mat out when he feels it's time for a nappy change, or he'll get it when I ask him. They are all little things, but I'm very impressed not only by his level of comprehension but by his willingness to do things.

Also, he's obsessed by spiders. We were keen for him not to be scared of spiders, especially since our house is regularly infested with them! So whenever we see one we blow on them very gently to get them to move and then we sing "Incy wincy spider". Kyle thinks this is great. So much so that he's often to be found scanning the ceiling, blowing and pointing trying to convince us of spiders that aren't there!
